Repair Consultation

€15.00

No matter how much you care for your garments, they are there to be worn, so accidents can always happen. A minor fix can create a new life for your garment and extend its lifetime. If you don’t have the time to repair something yourself, I offer a repair service. If you buy a product on the webshop there will be a repair service included, but I will also offer repairs for the textiles you already own.

The act of repairing itself reminds us that making something takes time and that no matter what brand it is worth mending for its value for who made it.

Currently, I’m not doing any workshops, but you can always have a look at www.fixing.fashion where I show you together with One Army how to repair, upcycle, and care for your clothes. If you don’t see an item on this list, it does not mean it can’t be done. All the options underneath are possible as visible repairing and as much as possible invisible repairing. Have questions? Email me with questions at aliciaminnaard.info@gmail.com

Sashiko Repair

Durable repair, done by hand with a running stitch, can be done with white thread for the traditional Japanese look, but can also be done in the same colour as the textiles for a less visible look. Suitable for woven textiles and garments like jeans, jackets, shirts, dresses, skirts and pants. Not suitable for knits.
hole (smaller than a quarter)          €25
hole (larger than a quarter)            €35+

Stitch repair by machine
A cheap option, as it is a quick and easy fix by machine. Preferably not done in places where a lot of friction or movement is happening, as the fabric can become a bit thicker. For crotch and knee repairs I recommend the Sashiko repair or Darning. Suitable for woven textiles and garments like jeans, jackets, shirts, dresses, skirts, and pants. Not for knits.

hole (larger than a quarter)                €20+

Patch repair by hand
Durable repair, but not recommended for places with a lot of friction. Only for small rips and stain coverups. The patch can be done in a shape or a simple square. This repair is also nice to cover stains and can also be done in a patchwork way, with multiple patches over each other.

Suitable for woven textiles and garments like jeans, jackets, shirts, dresses, skirts, and pants. Not for knits

Patch repair by machine

Durable repair is done by machine, but not recommended for places with a lot of friction. A piece of fabric that makes the rip or hole more durable by replacing or covering the worn-out area. The patch can be done in a shape or a simple square. This repair is also nice to cover stains and can also be done in a print way where the patches become a print on the garment.

Good for woven textiles and garments like jeans, jackets, shirts, dresses, skirts and pants. Not for knits.

Square patching                             €25+
Decorative patching                      €45+

Darning (woven)
Decorative, but durable repair.A technique where weaving is created over the rip on woven fabrics or in the hole on woven and knitted fabrics. Very beautiful repair but more time-consuming and therefore more costly. Suitable for jeans, jackets, shirts, dresses, skirts, and pants, but also knits like T-shirts, sweaters, hoodies etc.

Smaller than a quarter              €35
Larger than a quarter                €45+
Bigger holes                              €55+

Swiss Darning (knits)
Decorative, but durable repair.A technique where the knit is knitted back with a different yarn and therefore closes the rip. Good for chunkier knits. With this technique, the stretch stays in the fabric compared to the normal darning repair. Suitable for sweaters, pullovers, cardigans etc.

Smaller than a quarter              €35
Larger than a quarter                €45+
Bigger holes                              €55+

Possible repair areas

Each repair is unique, it is often difficult to set a price for each until I see each individual garment. Depending on the technique you choose, the area of the repair and how much the garment needs reinforcement. I’ll try to make a reasonable price for both of us, combining the technique price with the area it is placed at and how big the repair has to be. These prices are estimates until I am able to look over your garment.
